Medicaid can help you access free or low-cost medical care and prescription drugs. Each Medicaid program has different rules.
Vermont’s Medicaid programs

- Medicaid for Children and Adults (MCA) includes:
- Medicaid for Adults — for age 19 - 64 without a disability
- Dr. Dynasaur — for age 0 - 19 and pregnant people
- Medicaid for the Aged, Blind and Disabled — for age 65 or older and people who are blind or have a disability determination at any age
- Medicaid for Working People with Disabilities (MWPD) — for people with a disability determination who are working
- Long-Term Care Medicaid (Choices for Care) — for people who need long-term care services in a nursing home or help to stay in their home
Vermont’s health care programs are sometimes called Green Mountain Care or Vermont Health Connect or Medicaid. You may see these names on the application and letters if you apply.

Other health insurance options
If you do not qualify for Medicaid, there are other health care programs in Vermont:
- Vermont Health Connect: You may qualify for financial help and private insurance through Vermont Health Connect if your income is over the limit for Medicaid and you do not have an affordable offer of health insurance at work.
- Medicare: You may qualify for Medicare if you are turning age 65 or have a disability determination at any age.
- Health programs for immigrants: You may qualify for certain health programs in Vermont if you are an immigrant.
- Prescription help: There are state and federal programs that can help lower your prescription costs.
- Low cost or free care at clinics and hospitals: You may qualify for financial help at a clinic or hospital if you do not have any insurance or if you have insurance but it is hard to pay the cost-sharing (out-of-pocket costs).
