- People who have Medicaid for Adults may have to meet work requirements or show that the requirement does not apply to them.
- Everyone on Medicaid for Adults will have to renew their Medicaid every six months.

People with a low income who are age 19 – 64 and:
- do not have Medicare, and
- are not pregnant.

Benefits
Medicaid for Adults has no premium (monthly cost). It covers many different services and has low out-of-pocket costs, such as:
- doctor and hospital visits ($1 - $3 copay)
- prescription drugs ($1 - $3 copay)
- durable medical equipment ($1 - $3 copay)
- dental care (annual benefit of $1,500), and
- free transportation to the pharmacy and medical appointments (for people who do not have a car or other way to get there).
You must go to doctors, dentists and hospitals that accept Vermont Medicaid. Ask the provider before you make an appointment.
How to qualify
You may qualify if your monthly income is under 138% of the federal poverty level (FPL) for your household size.
There is no resource test for Medicaid for Adults. This means the state will not look at the things you own and your money in the bank.

How to apply
If you live in Vermont, you can apply any of these ways through Vermont Health Connect:
- Online: Click “Apply Now” to create an online account and submit an application.
- By phone: Call Vermont Health Connect at 1-855-899-9600.
- By mail: Download and print the application. Fill out pages 1 - 11 and then mail it to Vermont Health Connect.
- In-person: You can get help applying for insurance by calling or meeting with trained helpers called assisters. Find an assister near you.
What happens when you don’t qualify for Medicaid for Adults?
- Vermont Health Connect will send you a notice if you are over income and don’t qualify for Medicaid for Adults.
- You will qualify for a 60-day Special Enrollment Period to enroll in other health insurance coverage.
