Sex discrimination involves unfair treatment based on your physical sex, your sexual orientation, your gender, the gender you identify as, or whether or not people think you fit a stereotype that is based on any of these.
Women domestic violence victims are also protected under the sex discrimination category. Any decision about a person that is based on what the decision maker thinks about the person’s sex, gender, or sexual orientation may be sex discrimination.
Discrimination based on sex seriously harms the people who are discriminated against and made to feel unwelcome. But sex discrimination affects everyone. It keeps us from living in diverse, inclusive communities.
