If you have too many resources, you should talk to a lawyer familiar with Medicaid law.
Asset management issues are complicated. The information below is intended to help you have a general understanding, but you should have expert help with any decisions you make about your resources.
The Choices for Care resources limit is $2,000 if you reside in a long-term care facility and $5,000 if you own a home and continue to live in it. These limits only apply to those resources that are "countable."
Countable resources include cash, savings, bonds, CDs, stocks, mutual funds, bank accounts, and non-home real property such as a separate parcel of land or a camp.
Other resources such as your home, automobile and burial funds are usually exempt and are not considered available by CFC to pay for your care.
