Seniors: The Next Advance Planning Workshop

Senior filling out paperwork

April 4, 2019

Vermont Legal Aid is holding free Advance Planning Workshops around the state. The next one is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019, at our offices at 274 North Winooski Avenue in Burlington, Vermont.

You will be able to meet with a lawyer and complete a simple will, a financial power of attorney, a medical advance directive and receive long-term Medicaid planning advice. These are important documents used for looking ahead and planning for the future.

To qualify for these clinics, you must be 60 years old or older and you must be a Vermont resident. There are also some income and asset restrictions.

Please sign up before the workshop to complete a questionnaire with information you will need to fill out your documents. This includes:

  • information about your family
  • who you want to carry out your wishes
  • the personal property, residences and assets you own.

You will be able to:

  • appoint someone to serve as a guardian if you have minor children
  • appoint someone to manage your finances
  • appoint someone to make medical decisions when you become unable to do so.

Please plan ahead and contact those individuals before deciding to appoint them.

Make Your Appointment Today

These decisions are incredibly important and personal. They require a lot of thought. You will need to complete a questionnaire before coming to the workshop, and we ask that you make an appointment at least a week before the workshop so we can send you the questionnaire. We can be most helpful if you bring the names and addresses of anyone you want to name as an agent or beneficiary.

Call us at 1-800-889-2047 to sign up for the Advance Planning Workshop for seniors on April 27.

What About Walk-In Clients?

We will give walk-in clients information and advice only. You will have the chance to sign up for a later clinic. Walk-ins are available on April 27 from 12:30 - 3 p.m. only.
