You First (formerly called Ladies First) provides services for Vermonters 21 years old or older who meet income guidelines.
The income guidelines are found on the You First page of the Vermont Department of Health website.
You can get You First even if you have other health insurance (but not if you have Medicare Part B). For example, if you are on a Vermont Health Connect plan with a high deductible and high out-of-pocket costs, You First can work with your Vermont Health Connect plan to lower your out-of-pocket costs.
Transgender women (male-to-female) who have taken or are taking hormones and meet all program requirements are also eligible for You First. Transgender men (female-to-male) may still get cancer screenings through You First if they have not had a bilateral mastectomy or total hysterectomy.
The You First program covers:
- annual mammograms
- repeat mammograms
- clinical breast exams
- risk counseling and genetic counseling
- pelvic exams
- cervical Pap tests
- instruction in breast self-exam
- ultrasounds
- biopsies
- colposcopies
- cardiovascular disease risk factor (cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes) screening
- referrals to 802 Quits for smoking cessation services

If you already received one of the above listed services in the last three months, you may still be able to get it covered by You First. Apply for You First and ask about retroactive coverage. If you are found eligible for retroactive coverage, You First can backdate your start date by up to three months, and you can get coverage for services you have already received.
