USDA RD Grants for Very-Low-Income Homeowners in Vermont

Another source of help for some Vermonters may be a grant from USDA Rural Development (RD). A grant is money that you do not have to pay back.

Very-low-income homeowners may be able to get a USDA RD grant of up to $40,675 to repair their flood-damaged homes.

Who is eligible?

You need to live in one of the federally declared disaster counties. As of August 1, 2023, those are:

  • Caledonia County
  • Chittenden County
  • Lamoille County
  • Orange County
  • Orleans County
  • Rutland County
  • Washington County
  • Windham County, and
  • Windsor County.

Most of Vermont is eligible as a “rural” location except for areas in Burlington and its neighboring cities/towns. Contact USDA RD to see if you are eligible.

Income limits vary by county. You cannot be over the “very low limit” on the page for Vermont. Contact USDA RD to see if you are eligible.

Eligible homeowners of any age can apply for a grant. You must live in the house that needs repair.

Mobile home owners can also apply for these grants to repair their homes. Contact USDA RD to see if you are eligible.
