If you are having trouble with a specific person, post or tell the person in writing, so they know they are not invited on your property. That notification is called a Notice Against Trespass. Check with your local law enforcement agency about the kind of notice required so that if the person comes in again, there can be a criminal charge.

If you and your partner were never married but own property together, you can start a partition case in the Civil Division of Vermont Superior Court. These cases are complicated. You may want to contact the Vermont Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service to hire a private lawyer. At Legal Services Vermont and Vermont Legal Aid, we cannot help Vermonters with partition cases.

Asset management issues are complicated. You should have expert help with any decisions you make about your assets or property. Giving away assets or property, including your home, within five years of applying for Choices for Care (Medicaid), may mean that you will not qualify for long-term care services for a period of time. If you want to sell your mobile home and it is in a mobile home park, you have to tell the park owner in writing before you sell it. You have to send the notice to the park owner by certified mail.
