The Green Mountain Care Board approved 2018 Vermont Health Connect health insurance rates this week.
For Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont, the board approved an average 9.2 percent increase in the price of premiums. (The insurance company had requested 12.7 percent.) For MVP, the board approved an average 3.5 percent increase. (The insurance company had requested 6.7 percent.)
Mike Fisher of the Office of the Health Care Advocate said the board’s decision “definitely moved in the right direction, but, at the same time, I can’t celebrate a 9.2 percent rate increase when average-income Vermonters with health care challenges have a crisis in their ability to afford the care they need.” The Office of the Health Care Advocate works on health care issues on behalf of Vermonters.
