October 4, 2017
The Vermont Department of Taxes is reminding Vermonters that the last date to file a property tax adjustment claim or renter rebate claim for 2016 is October 16, 2017. The original due date for these forms was in April. However, you can still file with a $15 late fee.
Depending on your income, you may be eligible for a reduction in your property taxes or a rebate on the rent you paid. Learn more about the property tax adjustment here. Read more about the renter rebate here.
If you only need to file one of these claims, you can do that for free online at myvtax.vermont.gov. If you need to file 2016 tax returns and also need to file one of these claims, go to irs.gov/freefile. Many IRS free-file partners offer free or low-cost state tax returns.
