Harassment is a verbal, written, visual, or physical incident, including any incident conducted by electronic means (e.g. by email or text message), that is:
- intended to create an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment and
- based on or motivated by:
- national origin
- gender identity
- marital status
- sexual orientation or
Harassment of a student may be based on a characteristic of the student or the student’s family.
Harassment can be for actual or perceived characteristics. This means that the victim does not have to actually have the characteristic that they are being harassed for.
Sexual harassment is covered by this policy under gender-based harassment.
