Are You Overlooking WIC Food Benefits?

April 6, 2018

Here’s an interesting statistic: Only 60% of eligible families are participating in the WIC nutrition program.

Are you overlooking possible food help from WIC?

WIC may be right for you if:

  • you’re pregnant or a new mom
  • you’re a family with a child under five, or
  • you’re a caregiver of a child under five.

WIC helps you eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy.

Typical WIC foods are:Child eating cereal

  • Milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, tofu and soy milk beverage
  • Breakfast cereals, whole grains options, peanut butter, canned or dry beans
  • Fruits and vegetables and 100% fruit juice
  • Infant formula and baby food

Even if you get 3SquaresVT, you can get WIC. WIC foods supplement your family’s diet. Most WIC foods are items families buy every month. WIC helps make the rest of your food budget more flexible.

Many families who make too much or don’t qualify for 3SquaresVT are eligible for WIC. You are also financially eligible if you or your child currently receives Medicaid or Dr. Dynasaur, 3SquaresVT or Reach-Up.
